Troy ISD Names Dr. Andru Gilbert as Next Superintendent

This evening at a special call board meeting, the Troy ISD Board of Trustees voted unanimously to name Dr. Andru Gilbert as the Lone Finalist for Superintendent of Schools and the district’s next leader. Please join us in welcoming Dr. Gilbert to the Troy Family!
“Through the process of selecting a new superintendent, the board has remained committed to finding a leader who aligns with our vision and mission,” said Board President Gary McMurtry, “We thank Mr. Neil Jeter, current superintendent for his 29 years of service. Under his leadership, Troy has continued its trajectory of a culture of doing what’s right for our students, staff and community. The Board trusts that Dr. Gilbert will work to expand that culture and meet the challenges facing Troy ISD. Dr. Gilbert brings a host of experiences and characteristics that align with the feedback we have received from our community and staff.”
A Texas public school educator with 15 years of experience. He has been in education at the classroom, campus and district levels. He began his career as a high school English teacher in Irving ISD. Dr. Gilbert was an elementary and high school assistant principal, a high school principal, and currently serves as the Assistant Superintendent of Administration in Denison ISD.
During his tenure in Denison ISD, Dr. Gilbert oversaw the passage of bond programs totaling $152 million to expand elementary capacity, launch an early childhood center, build a new 5 th and 6th grade center, improve technology, and identifying land to prepare for regional growth. Additionally, Dr. Gilbert worked to support the launch of the Denison ISD Police Department to increase the security stance of the district. Dr. Gilbert serves on the United Way of Grayson County board and was named the Community Leader of the Year in 2025. Dr. Gilbert received a bachelor’s in English from Dallas Baptist University and a master’s and Doctor of Education from Texas A&M University and Dallas Baptist University. He also holds a Texas Superintendent Certification.

My family and I are eager to get connected and begin supporting the students and families. I look forward to seeing you out in the community and serving alongside the strong team of teachers, staff, and our campus and district leaders.”
Dr. Gilbert’s wife, Carly, is an active partner of Denison serving on the board of Denison Performing Arts and through PTO in Denison ISD. She also serves as the Vice President & Treasurer of the Cure RTD Foundation. Carly is honored to be able to join in and serve the Troy Trojans.
The process to select the next superintendent included input from students, teachers, staff, parents, and community members about the desired characteristics of a new superintendent. Input was gathered through an online community survey and in-person focus groups. Superintendent Neil Jeter will continue to lead Troy ISD through the 21-day waiting period required by Texas law that begins when a superintendent is announced as the lone finalist. The Troy ISD Board of Trustees is expected to vote on the final selection of Dr. Andru Gilbert as Superintendent at a special meeting in June.
