Since 2013, the Texas Department of Agriculture has recognized schools for their efforts to bring local foods and agricultural education to their students. Troy ISD's Child Nutrition Department last fall successfully achieved the "Sharp Cheddar" level of recognition. That means our cafeterias served at least one Texas-grown food during each week of the challenge.
Serving food sourced from local Texas farmers and ranchers is important. Many food options we serve in the cafeteria--like milk and many seasonal produce items--are sourced locally from Texas producers. In a community where agriculture is a key economic driver, Troy ISD is proud to support Texas producers.
