Unable to travel for live UIL Concert and Sight Reading competition in front of judges due to COVID restrictions, the Raymond Mays Middle School Concert and Symphonic Bands recorded videos to be submitted for judging. The bands are under the direction of Leah Jones. Results from the competition are expected in about two weeks. “The students performed extremely well. It was the best they had ever played all three pieces. The students have been working hard on this music since January. They were required to pass sections of their music for test grades and to come in for small group rehearsals. Both of these definitely paid off,” Jones said. The selections included:
Symphonic Band—“Swashbuckler’s March,” by Williams, “Black Forest Overture,” by Sweeny, and “Armory,” by Standridge.
Concert Band—“Crown Point March” by Pearson, “Night Fury,” by Chambers, and “Dance Celebration,” by Smith.
